The BPHD-21 MS Emblem Relief 01 set of plastic accessories from Bandai brings emblem and relief elements with which a smooth surface of a robot model can be brought to life. The parts are pre-colored and click together without glue.

An emblem on the chest or the shoulder is usually handled by a decal. This set offers a second route: a three-dimensional plastic relief that casts a shadow on the model and does not disappear under a matte varnish. It is an accessory, not a kit: you attach it to a model you already have. The parts are injection-molded from plastic colored right through and snap together, so the set requires neither glue nor paints.
Relief, or decal?
A relief has the advantage over a decal that it cannot be damaged by rubbing and that it responds nicely to light. The drawback is that it is harder to place on curved surfaces and that you have to think its position through beforehand. The best result comes from a combination of the two: the relief as the main emblem, decals as small warning markings.
Separate the parts with nippers and level the gate mark with a fine file. If you are painting the relief, it works well to spray it all over with a base shade first and then run a dry brush over the raised edges; that makes the design jump out. A dark wash run into the recesses will do the rest. At the end a varnish suited to the surface of the surrounding model is in order.
This is an accessory set. The base model is not included in the package.
