A brass I-section, that is two parallel flanges joined in the middle by a web. Brass is strong and dimensionally stable, so even a thin section does not twist of its own accord and will take more load than a plastic rod of the same profile. The surface can be sanded and polished, and the material solders well.
The section is 305 mm long with a profile of 1 x 2 mm. There is one piece in the package. The section is a semi-finished material, so it replaces no particular part and you cut the lengths you need from it yourself.
A girder profile is used wherever the real structure is meant to be visible on a model: crane runways, gantries, bridges, roof trusses of industrial halls, trailer frames and supports in dioramas. It also serves as a hidden stiffener inside large models, where a plastic part sags on its own.
Part the section with a fine metal saw or with side cutters and then square the cut up with a file; it cannot be cut with a file alone. Chamfer the ends so that the parts meet without a gap. You can join them with super glue, at loaded points rather with two-part epoxy, or by soldering with tin. Before painting, wash and degrease the section and apply a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth brass.
Tools, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
