British Commando’s - Round Plaque 25mm

The real subject

The British commandos, that is the Commandos, came about in 1940 as light formations trained for landings and raiding operations on the coast of occupied Europe. Their training took place mainly in Scotland and was notorious for its hardness. During the war the commandos took part in a number of landings, and their badge is among the best known British military symbols of the Second World War.

What the plaque is for

This is a round plaque 25 mm in diameter, that is a small accessory carrying the badge of a unit. Modelers use a plaque like this to label finished work: it goes on a base, on the front edge of the base of a diorama or on a shelf beside a model, so that it is clear at first glance which unit the scene claims. In a collection a plaque also serves as a unifying element, because identically executed labels on every piece keep a display case tidy.

Placement tips

The diameter of 25 mm is deliberately small so that the plaque does not overpower the model. It looks best on the vertical front edge of a base, roughly in the middle, or in the corner of a horizontal surface away from the main line of sight. Try the place dry beforehand and clean and degrease the edge of the base before settling it so that it holds; go by the manufacturer's instructions for the method of fixing. When you add a plaque to dark wood or to a varnished base, count on a small light element standing out against a dark background more than you expect.

Who it is for

For builders of dioramas and display scenes on the subject of the British commandos and for collectors who want uniform descriptive plaques on their models. Paints, glue and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
