The more paint the brush takes up, the more thoroughly you have to wash it out. Get to work right after finishing the coat - acrylics with water or a brush cleaner, enamels and lacquers with the matching thinner - and pay attention to the bristles at the metal ferrule, where the paint stays longest. If it dries there, the bristles spread and the stroke opens out permanently. After washing, draw the bristles into shape and let the brush dry bristles upwards, never leaning on the bottom of a container.
