About product

Burnt Steel Blue — an Abteilung 502 weathering pigment

A fine matte metallic pigment from Abteilung 502 in a 20 ml container. It is not an opaque paint but a dry pigment powder for weathering. The cool blue-gray shade faithfully imitates burnt and heat-discolored metal of the kind that forms on steel exposed to high temperatures.

Use

  • Muzzles, chambers and the heat-stressed parts of weapons
  • Exhausts, mufflers and manifolds with traces of burnt metal
  • Scorched steel surfaces, tool blades and cutting edges
  • The polished areas beside rails, the contact faces of tracks and metal running gear
  • Applied dry, burnished with a finger or a brush for a metallic sheen, then sealed

Who the pigment is for

It will be appreciated by modelers of military vehicles and aircraft and by diorama builders who want to tell heat-stressed, burnt metal apart from ordinary rust. It combines well with rust pigments and metallic effects.

A fine pigment powder. Do not inhale it, work in a ventilated space and consider a respirator. Keep out of the reach of children.

FAQ

It imitates the so-called temper colors of steel after heating, when the surface takes on a blue-gray metallic cast.

Once the dry pigment is applied, burnish it gently with a finger or a stiffer brush and then seal it.

Not primarily; this is a burnt-metal effect. For rust, use the rust shades of pigment.
