The red Zaku is probably the most quoted machine of the whole brand, the commander version of a series-produced mobile suit made famous by one particular pilot and by its unmistakable red finish. Bandai offers it with pre-colored parts, so you get the characteristic color straight away, without mixing shades and without a coat of paint.
The Zaku is the classic series-produced mobile suit from the beginnings of the whole series, and in the story it appears as the opponent of the main machines. Commander examples were set apart from the ordinary ones by color and by performance, which is reflected in exactly this red finish. It is precisely the combination of a series-produced machine and an exceptional pilot that made it one of the best known icons of the genre. The particular armament and equipment differ between individual forms, and the contents of the package are stated on the packaging.
Pre-colored plastic holds a deep red even without a coat of paint, which matters on this machine, because red tends to be one of the worst-covering colors in hand painting. Burrs and scratches show clearly on it, though, so when separating the parts from the sprue, clip at a distance and even the sprue nub out with a knife. Voluntarily, it pays off to bring out the engraved lines with a thin stroke, to add the markings and to unify the sheen with a matte varnish. Place the finished piece out of direct sunlight, because red shades fade fastest in the light.
