Coagulated Blood - oil paint (Abteilung 502)

A dark red coagulated blood shade from the Abteilung 502 range of artists' oil paints for modelers. It is not an opaque paint for a base coat but an oil for effects and weathering: imitating dried and coagulated blood, wounds, stains and dark red grime. The finely ground pigments and the oil binder stay workable for a long time, so the effect can be layered, blended and controlled in intensity step by step. The paint is popular on figures, dioramas and both fantasy and historical subjects where realistic blood is needed.

Use

• The paint is thinned with mineral spirits or turpentine, not with water or with lacquer (cellulose) thinner.
• For dried blood apply it in small layers and darken and thicken the tone step by step.
• It is applied over a dry, ideally matte varnished base, which takes oil well.
• Excess and gloss can be adjusted by drawing off with a brush or evened out with a matte varnish.
• Stir the contents of the tube before use, as the oil can separate at the surface.
