Dark Green

Under a closed wood it is dark

In a dense wood almost no direct light falls on the ground and everything that grows there is several tones darker than vegetation in an open meadow. Anyone building a more extensive forest part needs dark green as the prevailing color, not as a complement. It is for precisely that that the more generous package is intended: it makes it possible to cover a whole forest floor in a uniform tone and only then to bring light patches into it where the sun breaks through the crowns.

Yield and texture

According to the manufacturer the content will cover 945 cm². The texture is fine, the material spreads out over an area and does not create bushes on their own, so it serves well for growth over the area between trunks, for root flares and for the edges of forest roads. The foam is colored in its whole volume, so rubbing does not take the color off.

How much dark color a scene will take

Experience says that a dark tone is used sparingly in open landscape, whereas in a closed wood it prevails instead. The mistake comes when a modeler spreads dark green over open areas as well, which are meant to be sunlit; a scene then turns gray and loses its space. It helps to think about where the light really comes from and to place the dark parts under branches, by the northern sides of walls and in hollows. It is applied onto a thin layer of thinned glue, and once dry the area is knocked off and the loose material returned to the package. The use is tied neither to the size of the models nor to the type of scenery, and only how finely a modeler spreads the material over the terrain decides.
