About product

Abteilung 502 Dark Mud - dry weathering pigment, manufacturer Abteilung 502

A dry modeling pigment from Abteilung 502 in the form of a very fine colored powder. It is neither a paint nor a kit but a weathering medium with which you put realistic traces of the environment onto a model. The Dark Mud shade is a dark earthy brown suggesting fresh, wet mud - it suits landing gear, fenders, running gear, the undersides of hulls and the boots of figures. The pigment comes in a jar and is applied dry with a brush; it settles in recesses and engraved detail, where it forms a convincing layer of deposit. When you are done it is fixed so that the powder does not fall off.

Use

  • Apply the fine powder with a soft brush where mud settles in reality - running gear, fenders, lower edges.
  • Fix it with a pigment fixer or with mineral spirits (white spirit); once dry the effect stays put.
  • Combine several shades (rust, dust, lighter earth) for a layered and natural result.
  • For a wet muddy look, mix the pigment with a little fixer or effect liquid into a paste.
  • Suitable for armored vehicles, other subjects, dioramas and figures alike.

Who it is for

For modelers of armor, diorama builders and figure painters who want true-to-life mud effects and an earthy patina. Pigments are easy to master even for beginners who want to push the realism of their models.

This is a weathering pigment (a fine powder), not a paint. Do not inhale the dust, work carefully in a well ventilated space, ideally with respiratory protection.
