Board and batten with a board spacing of 3.2 mm and a batten 0.62 mm wide. The batten stands above the surface, so on the model it works with a shadow of its own, not just with a pattern.

A sheet with an area of four hundred and fifty square centimeters with vertical board and batten. The boards are 3.2 mm apart, the covering batten is 0.62 mm wide and it is the coarsest variant of this relief in the range.
Most textured surfaces work with a cut, that is, with a shadow that arises inside a groove. Here the situation is reversed: the batten stands above the surface and casts its shadow beside it. The difference matters during the build, because a cast shadow changes with where the light comes from, and the surface therefore comes alive with every turn of the base. At the same time it is more vulnerable. What is lost under paint with a groove is rubbed away here by abrasive paper in a second.
The size classification follows from the board spacing. Three point two millimeters multiplied by eighty-seven gives two hundred and seventy-eight millimeters, that is, a board of the kind really used for board and batten. A factor of forty-eight works out at one hundred and fifty-four millimeters, which is a narrow but possible board. The ratio of the batten to the spacing stays around one fifth here too, just as with both finer grades from the same brand.
When painting, a dry brush drawn at right angles across the battens helps. It brings out their edges and leaves the rest of the surface darker, so the relief stands out even under a matte varnish.
Make the window and door frames from thin square rods and glue them on only once the surface is finished and painted. That gains you two things at once: a sharp transition between the frame and the boarding, which would merge if they were painted together, and the chance to give the wood of the frame a different shade from the wall. On real buildings the frames tend to be painted a different color and at a different age from the surfaces, so it is factually right as well. The battens on the surface stay untouched in the process, because not even a brush with covering paint reaches them.
