An acrylic paint from the Dry Brush range by Green Stuff World in a 30 ml bottle. The Raptor Green shade is green. The range is named after the dry brushing technique, but the contents are a paint for a brush, not a pigment and not an effect product.

When dry brushing comes into play

Dry brushing has a fixed place in the painting process. First comes the base coat, after it the shading or a wash that darkens the hollows, and only then dry brushing, which pulls out the raised places. If the order were reversed, the wash would pull the lightened edges back down again. Only at the end come the details painted with the tip of a brush and any fixing with varnish. A green shade is rewarding in this process on scaly and organic texture, that is on lizards, dragons and monsters, and also on vegetation and overgrown areas of dioramas, where dry brushing pulls out the cast texture of leaves and moss.

Use

• Apply only after the base coat and the shading, not before them.
• Draw the strokes across the peaks of the texture, and on scales and leaves keep them short and irregular.
• Wipe the excess paint off on a towel until a stroke no longer leaves a continuous mark.
• Build the effect up by repeating, not by the amount of paint on the brush.
• Stir the bottle before work and clean the brush as soon as you finish.
