Saunders Roe: a mask for the canopy and the wheel disks (1:72, Kovozavody Prostejov)

A set of exactly cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the British experimental Saunders-Roe fighter in 1:72 scale. The masks cover the framing of the transparent canopy and the surfaces of the disks (the hubs) of the wheels, so that when the paint is sprayed a sharp and even boundary arises between the frames and the glazing. This is not a model of an aircraft but a masking accessory for a plastic kit.

The real subject

The Saunders-Roe was a British experimental aircraft with combined rocket and jet power, developed as a test interceptor prototype in the middle of the 1950s. Its characteristic features were the short stocky fuselage section and the nose landing gear.

Use

• Carefully lift the masks off the backing and apply them onto a clean, degreased canopy.
• Press the edges down carefully, so that no paint runs under them; spray in thin coats.
• Mask the wheel disks separately, so that the tires and the hubs stay sharply separated.
• Once the paint has dried, take the masks off before the film fully hardens.
