The Bf 109G-4 belongs to the Gustav line, that is to the late versions of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter aircraft. The Gustavs were powered by the DB 605 engine, a supercharged inverted V12 with the cylinders pointing downward. It is to this arrangement that the Bf 109 owes the narrow nose with a sloping spine, which you will recognize in profile at first glance. In 1:32 scale the model comes out at roughly thirty-one centimeters in span, so every unevenness of the edge of the paint is visible on the cockpit transparencies.
The set holds self-adhesive masks cut to the shapes of the SWS Zoukei-Mura kit in 1:32 scale. They need not suit the kits of other makers, because both the division of the transparencies and the position of the frames differ from one to another. The rendition is one-sided according to the name. The masks are used to cover the areas that are to stay free of paint; most often these are the cockpit transparencies and the tires. The maker's instructions describe the exact extent of the set.
Wash and degrease the surface first, otherwise the mask will not seat. Stick it on before spraying and press the edges down with a blunt point, so that the paint does not run under them. Apply the paint in several thin coats. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has flashed off, with tweezers at a sharp angle. In a large scale masks are more comfortable to work with than in a small one, but the edges are that much more visible, so it pays not to hurry.
For builders of large models who want the transparencies sharply bounded. A kit and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
