Ferns grow where there is shade and damp: on the forest floor under the canopy, on the north side of walls, by stumps, on the banks of streams and in ruins through which greenery pushes its way. On a diorama they are therefore rewarding twice over. For one thing they look rich in themselves, because the leaf is intricate; for another they tell a viewer what the weather is like in the place and how long the scene has already been left to its fate. A military vehicle wrapped in ferns by a forest track tells something different from the same vehicle on a bare plain.
This is a scenic accessory for dioramas for 1:32 and 1:35 scale, that is for the most common scales of military vehicles and figures. The name gives the size as 95 x 70 mm; how many plants you plant from it and how large an area you cover depends on the density of the growth you choose. The material of the parts and the recommended procedure are given in the manufacturer's description and instructions.
Do not plant the ferns in a row or at regular intervals. In nature they grow in clumps of unequal size, more densely by obstacles and in hollows. Do not leave the leaves sticking up, but bend some of them in an arc toward the ground, so that the growth does not look cut out of one sheet. Put the tones between the individual clumps slightly out of tune with one another, because greenery of one color looks artificial; the lower leaves tend to be darker and yellowish. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and according to the manufacturer's instructions, and sink the bottom of the plant into the terrain, so that it does not stand on the surface.
The base of a diorama, terrain materials, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
