A masking set for the late Erla canopy of the Bf 109 G-6 model in 1:48 scale, for the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The canopy is the most visible part of a Bf 109 model and at the same time the one on which inaccurate masking shows up most. This set holds masks with an outline following the parts of the kit, that is the Bf 109 G-6 model in 1:48 scale from Tamiya, and it is tied to the late canopy known under the designation Erla. How many masks the set holds is worth checking against the manufacturer's information.
Compared with the older framed version, the late canopy has fewer transverse frames and larger unbroken areas, so the pilot was left with a better view to the sides and to the rear. For the modeler that means a different division of the masked surfaces, which is why sets for the two versions cannot be swapped. The Bf 109 G-6 is the most built version of this fighter and it occurred with both forms of cockpit, so before buying it pays to check which canopy your kit holds.
Wash and degrease the glazing and apply the masks before spraying. Press the edges down with a blunt point so that paint does not creep under them, and lay on thin coats, or a step will form at the edge. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, so that the finish does not tear at the edge. The frames are usually sprayed first in the cockpit color and only then in the outer shade, so that a different finish does not show through from the inside.
A masking set is supplied. The kit, paints, glue and decals are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
