This injection-molded plastic kit in the large 1:32 scale from the Japanese maker Tamiya captures the early version of the F4U-1 Corsair carrier fighter with the characteristic canopy glazing nicknamed Birdcage. The model is richly equipped: it holds photo-etched parts and decals, the main landing gear can be shown extended or retracted, there are two pilot figures seated or standing, three marking options, a masking template for the birdcage canopy, a stand for displaying it in flight, a removable two-piece engine cowling and parts for an open or a closed canopy.
The F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter with a powerful radial engine, a large propeller and unmistakable cranked wings in the shape of an inverted gull. The first production machines had the prominent canopy glazing known as the Birdcage. The Corsair made its name in the fighting in the Pacific.
Glue the large parts carefully with liquid cement for plastic, and attach the glazing with a cement that does not fog clear parts. Mask the birdcage canopy with the enclosed template. An airbrush and fine picking out of the panel lines work well for a faithful appearance.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
