An injection-molded plastic kit of the British heavy infantry tank Churchill Mk.III in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer AFV Club, in the Dieppe release. The model corresponds to the Mk.III version with a welded turret and a 6-pounder gun. The kit stands out for its detailed execution: precise running gear with metal coil springs, fenders divided exactly as on the real vehicle, transparent periscopes, an accurate metal barrel with a hollowed bore and workable (movable) tracks. Photo-etched parts and decals are included as well.
The Churchill was a British infantry tank designed to support the infantry - with heavy armor, a long tracked outline and the ability to master difficult ground, at the price of lower speed. The Mk.III version brought a welded turret and a stronger 6-pounder gun in place of the weaker earlier armament. The Dieppe epithet refers to the Allied raid on the French port of Dieppe on 19 August 1942 (Operation Jubilee), in which Canadian units committed Churchill tanks. Most of the vehicles were stranded on the shingle beach and the operation ended in heavy losses - the action did, however, bring valuable lessons for the later landings.
A characteristic feature of the Churchill is its fully wrapped running gear with a host of small wheels - assemble and paint it before you close the sides of the hull up, because afterwards there will be no access to it. Work patiently with the workable tracks. Roughen the metal barrel lightly before gluing so that the paint adheres better. Lay the British khaki on with an airbrush and use liquid cement on the plastic. For a convincing patina use washes in the pressings and around the rivets and pigments for deposits of mud and dust around the running gear and the fenders - a vehicle from the beach positively asks for marked weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
