A plastic kit of the two-seat Focke-Wulf Fw C.30A Heuschrecke autogyro in 1:35 scale, in the version of the early production series. An autogyro is an interesting subject standing between an aircraft and a helicopter, with a large freely turning rotor and a tractor propeller. The model will please modelers looking for an unusual aviation subject.
The Heuschrecke, meaning locust, was the German license-built version of the British Cierva C.30 autogyro. It carried a radial engine, and the open two-seat cockpit served for training, liaison and observation. The rotor was not driven by the engine but turned of its own accord in the airflow, which allowed the machine a very short takeoff and slow, safe flight. The early production version differs in details of the airframe and the equipment.
Use a thin cement for plastic and clean the joints up carefully, because the fine structure of the rotor and the struts is sensitive to being overfilled. Apply a primer before spraying, paint with an airbrush in thin coats, and paint the fine rotor bracing before final assembly. The tensioning wires of the rotor and the landing gear can be added with thin thread.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the box, unless stated otherwise.
