A German gas station of the 1930s and 1940s in 1:35 scale is a plastic kit of a diorama accessory from MiniArt. It is not a vehicle model but a set piece for vehicles and figures to stand in.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer MiniArt belongs to its extensive range of diorama buildings and accessories. The subject is a period gas station of the kind that stood along European roads between the wars and lasted into the Second World War. The contents of the package and the number of parts are given in the instructions in the box.
It gives a model a setting. A vehicle standing on a bare base looks like an exhibit; the same vehicle at a pump already tells a story, of who is filling up, who is waiting and where they are going. The gas station suits civilian and military vehicles in 1:35 scale and combines well with figures, road signs, barrels and jerrycans of the same size.
The surface is where most of the work lies. Render and concrete can be roughened with putty or with fine sand mixed into the paint, while metal should be smoothed and lacquered to a gloss instead, so that the two materials are distinguishable. Period stations were not new and clean: chipped paint, rust at ground level, dusting and faded edges lend more credibility than a perfect finish. It pays to paint in subassemblies, while the walls and the fittings are still separate and you can reach into the corners. Even the surface out with a flat clear coat at the end and add pigments into the seams and at the foot of the structure.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
