A filling station is one of the few places where civilian and military vehicles naturally meet in a single scene, so it suits a quiet interwar setting as well as a wartime one. In an Italian setting it works well in combination with vehicles of the Mediterranean and North African campaigns, but also as a stand-alone civilian diorama with a period passenger car. The set also gives a model the edge of a roadway and a vertical volume, thanks to which the finished scene does not look flat.
Divide the build into assemblies that you paint separately and join only at the end, as otherwise you will not reach into the corners and under the canopy roof with a brush. Each material has its own procedure: plaster will take a coarser texture and a light deposit of pigment in the places where the rain reaches, whereas the sheet metal of the pumps needs a smooth glossy base for fine flaking and traces of oil to stand out on it. Tone a concrete surface with several thin washes one after another rather than one heavy one, and leave the greasy stains by the pumps until the very end, done with a gloss effect. Apply advertising elements and lettering over a dried gloss clear coat and go over them with a flat one.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, vehicles and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
