A kit of the German Leopard 2 main battle tank in the upgraded A7+ form, in 1:35 scale. It is a full model of current hardware for builders who want the present generation of armor in their cabinet, not only historical types. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Leopard 2 is a German main battle tank introduced at the start of the 1980s, which has gone through a long series of upgrade standards. The A7 form and the A7+ that follows it represent a newer stage of modification aimed, among other things, at deployment in built-up areas: this includes extended add-on protection for the hull and turret and changes to the crew equipment. The basic features of the machine remain: a large-caliber smoothbore gun, a flat and angular turret with sloped frontal surfaces, torsion bar suspension and seven road wheels on each side. It is precisely the angular silhouette and the intricate add-on panels that make the Leopard a rewarding subject for modelers, because every surface responds differently to light as well as to weathering.
Work from the bottom up: seat the running gear and the wheel mountings and let them cure while the hull is open and accessible. Fit the wheels to a common plane, otherwise the model will not stand straight in a cabinet. Finish and paint the tracks separately from the hull and fit them only after the base coat. Paint the turret and the hull separately; with current camouflage a dark base and gradual lightening of the surfaces toward their centers help so that the model does not look flat. Bring out the add-on panels and the hatches with a fine line of dark wash in the gaps. Keep weathering restrained: modern machines tend to be well maintained, so rather dust in the lower areas and metal wear on the edges and walkways than rust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
