An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M1A1 Abrams tank fitted with a front mine plow, in the form made famous by service in the Persian Gulf. The Tamiya kit offers a turret and barrel that move, a plow that moves as well, and figures of the tank commander and the loader. Chains and wire for detailing the front assembly are usually included too; take the exact contents of the package from the instructions.
The M1A1 is the upgraded version of the Abrams tank, with a 120 mm smoothbore gun and composite armor. During the Gulf War of 1991 the attacking units faced extensive minefields, and that is where the variant with a front plow proved itself, mechanically pushing the mines aside and clearing a safe passage.
Assemble and complete the running gear and the lower hull before you close the tub up. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, treat the surface with a primer and lay the paints down with an airbrush. Bring out the desert camouflage with fine washes and dust pigments; leave the movable plow free so that it can be posed for effect.
