About product

Mark IV Male/Female (2 in 1) 1:35 – Takom

A plastic kit of the British First World War heavy tank Mark IV in 1:35 scale from Takom. The 2 in 1 designation means that from a single box you can build either the Male version (which carries guns in the side sponsons) or the Female version (armed with machine guns only) – the decision is yours, and it is the main selling point of this release. The kit is notable for its richly worked riveted surfaces, workable individual track links, detailed running gear and additional photo-etched parts.

The real subject

The Mark IV was a British heavy tank used from 1917 and is one of the first genuinely combat-worthy tanks in history. You can recognize it by its unmistakable rhomboid outline, in which the tracks run around the entire circumference of the hull so the machine could cross wide trenches and the broken battlefield of the Western Front. The Male version carried guns in the side sponsons against fortifications and vehicles, while the Female had only machine guns in their place, against infantry. The crew numbered several men in a cramped, noisy and hot interior.

Building and painting tips

First decide on the Male or the Female version – they differ in what the sponsons carry. It is best to assemble and paint the running gear and the individual track links before the hull is closed and finished, because they are hard to reach later. Work with liquid cement for plastic and apply the paint with an airbrush; British khaki through brown-green is the usual choice. Bring out the riveted surfaces with a wash and treat the underside and the tracks with pigments and mud or dust effects – the battlefield of the Western Front was churned up and muddy.

Who the model is for

  • fans of First World War armor
  • anyone interested in the history of the very first armored vehicles to see action
  • modelers who will appreciate the choice of Male or Female from one box
  • more advanced builders (individual track links, photo-etch)

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

From a single box you can build either the Male version, which carries guns in the sponsons, or the Female version armed with machine guns only. You build one of them, as you choose.

The rhomboid outline with the tracks led around the whole circumference of the hull let it cross the wide trenches and broken ground of the First World War Western Front.

The kit uses individual track links. In general it is best to assemble and paint them before the hull is finished.
