About product

Pz.Kpfw.VI Sd.Kfz.182 Tiger II Henschel (1:35, Hobby Boss)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Tiger II heavy tank in its late production form of February 1945, in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. It captures the vehicle with the Henschel (production) turret with a flat front, which replaced the early Porsche turret. The kit usually combines injection-molded plastic with a metal gun barrel and photo-etched parts; for the exact contents of the package and the number of marking schemes, check the manufacturer's part number for this item.

The real subject

The Tiger II, also known as the Königstiger or King Tiger, was the heaviest German tank committed to action in series during the Second World War. It combined steeply sloped frontal armor with the powerful long-barreled 88 mm KwK 43 gun, which could destroy Allied tanks at long range. It was powered by a gasoline Maybach engine; the price for the high armor protection and firepower, however, was great weight, high fuel consumption and an unreliable running gear. Late production vehicles of 1945 carry simplified manufacturing details.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts off the sprues and glue them with a thin modeling cement for plastic; fix the metal barrel and the photo-etched elements with cyanoacrylate glue. First finish and paint the running gear and the lower hull, and only then close up the superstructure. Once the primer and the basic camouflage are sprayed with an airbrush, bring out the details with a wash and build up the dust, mud and dried earth on the running gear with pigments. Dirty the tracks and the wheels properly for a realistic late-war look.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of German armor of the Second World War
  • Modelers with experience of building tanks in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone interested in late production variants of the Tiger II
  • Fans of weathering with washes and pigments

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes, it is a classic injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale, usually completed by a metal barrel and photo-etched parts. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The Henschel (production) turret has a flat front without the rounded bulge and was simpler to build. This kit captures exactly that late production form.

It is a late production batch with simplified details, as the Tiger II was built at the end of the war. Check the particular markings against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
