A resin replacement for the plastic idler wheels for models of vehicles of the PzKpfw IV family in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but a set of running gear parts. It differs from the other items in the range in two things: the wheel is in the cast form, that is in the shape of a cast disc, and according to the name the set is conceived universally, for kits from various brands rather than for one particular kit.
The idler wheel sits at the rear of the running gear, is not driven and the track is tensioned by it through an eccentric mounting. On the PzKpfw IV it occurred in several structural forms, which differ from one another in the way the disc was made. The cast variant has smoother, continuously flowing shapes without the distinct weld beads that are typical of the welded form. On a model the difference reads well, which is why both forms are sold separately and it is necessary to choose the one that matches the vehicle being built.
Wash the castings in warm water with detergent so that the mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface by sanding wet with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). With a universal set, reckon with the pin or the mounting possibly needing to be modified to suit a particular kit, so try the wheel dry first. Apply a primer before painting; weathering with dust pigments and a dark wash into the recesses of the disc will then bring the wheel out nicely.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a standalone model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
