An injection-molded plastic kit of the German tracked tractor Raupenschlepper Ost, RSO/01 for short, in the mid production version and 1:35 scale from the manufacturer MiniArt. The kit is richly divided up, as is typical for this manufacturer: it holds photo-etched parts, a chassis and suspension rendered in detail, clear parts for the windows and several variants of markings. Verify the exact number of parts and the schemes against the enclosed instructions.
The Raupenschlepper Ost, literally tracked tractor East, came about as a response to the muddy and snowbound roads of the Eastern Front, where wheeled vehicles got stuck. It was driven by a Steyr engine of around 85 horsepower and built on the proven parts of the Steyr 1500 truck. It offered good going across country and a decent load capacity, albeit at the cost of a low speed of around 30 km/h. It served mainly as an artillery tractor and a supply vehicle.
First assemble and paint the chassis, the running gear and the tracks, and only then close the cargo bed and the cab. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer and spray the paint with an airbrush. The vehicle wore dark yellow, on the Eastern Front often completed with a winter white finish. Build the mud and dust on the tracks and the chassis with pigments and washes; a muddy running gear is exactly what gives the tractor an authentic look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
