About product

Schneider CA early version 1:35 (Hobby Boss)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the French tank Schneider CA in the early version, in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. The model captures one of the very first tracked combat vehicles. The set contains parts for the hull and the running gear, photo-etched elements and a decal sheet. Check the exact contents against the enclosed instructions.

The real subject

The Schneider CA was the first French tank. It first went into action in April 1917; the debut ended rather in failure and heavy losses, but later actions were more successful. In 1918 these tanks took part in stopping the German spring offensive and in the French attacks that followed, and they served practically until the end of the war. It carried a short gun and machine guns in a side sponson arrangement.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and clean up the running gear before closing the hull. The riveted surface comes out well when sprayed over a primer with fine shading. Divide the period multi-color camouflage with careful masking. You suggest mud and wear with washes and pigments; glue the photo-etched parts with super glue.
