An injection-molded plastic kit of the BMD-1 from the maker Zvezda. The model captures the light tracked amphibious vehicle of the Soviet airborne units. In the package you will find plastic parts on several sprues, a clear part for the periscopes and vision blocks, tracks made as flexible rubber bands and a decal sheet.
The BMD-1 was created at the end of the 1960s as an airborne combat vehicle conceptually following on from the BMP-1. It was light enough to be dropped by parachute, it could swim and it had a low silhouette. The main armament was a 73 mm gun supplemented by an anti-tank guided missile and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. It served with the Soviet and later the Russian airborne forces and became the basis of a whole family of amphibious airborne vehicles.
Assemble and ideally pre-paint the running gear before you close up the hull. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement and sand the joints carefully. A gray-green primer forms the base, with Soviet green over it from an airbrush; create the weathering with a dark wash in the recesses, a light dry brush on the edges and pigments for dust and mud on the underside and the tracks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
