This detailed injection-molded plastic kit from the maker MiniArt represents the Soviet two-axle tram of the X series (Kh in Russian transliteration) in its early form. The model in the unusual 1:35 scale contains a great many plastic parts, photo-etched items, decals with several marking options, and also a diorama base with a section of track and poles, on which you can display the finished tram to striking effect. The doors can be built either open or closed.
The trams of the X series were among the most widespread Soviet two-axle tramcars. They were built from the late 1920s, and the first cars went to Kharkov. They stayed in service in a great many cities into the 1960s and in places the 1970s, and they became an icon of interwar and postwar city transport.
Given its extent, this is a time-consuming build. Bond the plastic with liquid cement and the fine photo-etch with super glue. Finish and paint the interior and the underframe before you close the body. The large glazed areas deserve masks and clean work. For a realistic look, weathering, washes and fine pigments suit both the trackwork and the underside of the car.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
