A plastic kit of the T-34/85 medium tank in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian brand MiniArt. The box is described as an Interior Kit, which with this brand means that the model includes the internal fittings of the hull and turret as well, not only the external shape. The boxing is tied to the output of Plant No. 112 from the spring of 1944, that is to the early period of production of the version with the 85 mm gun. The T-34/85 was a modernization of the T-34 medium tank in which the main change lay in a larger three-man turret with an 85 mm gun. The division of work in the crew improved as a result, because the commander no longer had to work the weapon at the same time. The chassis stayed the same in principle: a twelve-cylinder diesel, vertical coil-spring suspension derived from the Christie system and wide tracks with low ground pressure. The individual factories differed in the execution of the turret castings, in the shape of the hatches, in the mounting of the fuel tanks and in small details of the hull, which matters to the modeler precisely with a boxing defined this narrowly.
Build a model with an interior in a clear order: the inside of the hull and the turret first, and only then close the shells up. It pays to keep trying dry whether all the internal assemblies fit. Finish and paint the running gear and the tracks separately, before the weathering comes round. Apply the base in two steps: a filler primer and only then the paint, ideally with an airbrush in thin layers. The internal spaces come alive well with a light tone and a fine oil wash that brings out the edges. Outside, dust pigments on the lower hull, fine chipping on the edges and restrained running into the welds all suit it — overdone weathering on large flat surfaces quickly looks unconvincing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
