1:35 T-54-1 w/interior

T-54-1 with interior 1:35 (MiniArt)

An injection-molded plastic model of the Soviet T-54-1 medium tank in its early production version, in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. It is a demanding kit with a complete interior: besides the exterior it holds a fully worked-out inside. The package combines a large number of plastic parts with photo-etched metal and clear parts. The exact number of parts and decal options is given in the instructions in the box.

The real subject

The T-54 is one of the most significant Soviet tanks of the postwar era and became the basis of the armored forces of the Soviet army and of a number of other states for decades. The T-54-1 version represents the early production form of the late 1940s, before the later changes to the turret and the equipment. The tank combined a proven layout with a powerful 100mm gun and became one of the most widespread tanks in history.

Building and painting tips

Build a model with a complete interior with forethought: first assemble and paint the inside of the fighting compartment, the driver's station, the engine and the inside of the turret, and only then close up the hull, because once it is glued those places are out of reach. The hatches can be left open to show part of the interior. Glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for plastic and the fine photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush in thin coats; bring the interior to life with washes and a dry brush, and weather the exterior with pigments for dust and mud effects.
