MiniArt is building a whole range of kits around the three-wheeled Tempo, and this kit covers the Lieferwagen variant with a delivery box body in the form for carrying milk. The 1:35 scale is untypically large for a civilian vehicle, and that is exactly why the model suits dioramas with figures so well, where a delivery van tends to be a rewarding backdrop to a street scene.
The Tempo A400 was one of the light commercial vehicles of German production of the 1930s, and its peculiarity was the arrangement with two rear wheels and one front wheel. The design was simple, cheap to run and easy to handle in narrow streets, so the vehicles suited small tradesmen, craftsmen and the delivery of goods. That is exactly why a whole range of bodies arose, from a flatbed to a closed box, and the milk version is among the most telling of them.
The models of this range are fine and are built up in small subassemblies, so cut the parts off with a sharp knife and check them dry before you reach for the glue. Apply thin glue for plastic into the seam with a brush so that it does not run over painted surfaces. Finish the chassis and the interior before you close up the body. A box body invites striking color and lettering, so a gloss clear coat under the decals and a matte overcoat at the end both pay off. Choose the weathering sparingly; on a working vehicle dust on the wheels and discreet wear on the edges are enough.
