A kit of the American G506 series truck in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer MiniArt. It is an injection-molded plastic model to be glued and painted, not a finished collector's piece. The bodywork is in the stake body configuration, that is with a cargo bed with side panels, which on these vehicles were used for carrying materiel as well as men. The model fits well among the other vehicles of an American supply column in 1:35 scale and is a rewarding basis for a diorama with a field depot, a workshop or a unit on the move.
The G506 series designates American trucks of roughly 1.5 tons capacity with four-wheel drive that were built in large numbers during the Second World War and served mainly for supply. They were made in many body configurations, from a closed van through a tanker to open stake bodies. Vehicles of this class were smaller and more maneuverable than the heavier types and were deployed where the load had to be brought closer to the units. They were also delivered to Allied armies, so the same chassis appears in many interesting color schemes.
With trucks it pays to work from the chassis: assemble the frame, the axles and the drivetrain, let everything cure properly and only then seat the cab and the bed. Paint the chassis and the inside of the cab before other parts cover them. For the plastic use thin cement for plastic models, which runs into the seams by capillary action. Before painting, spray the whole model with a base coat so that the top shade holds and any irregularities to be sanded show up. The olive shade looks truer if you lighten it slightly in the middle of an area and darken the edges instead. At the end come a wash into the pressings, dust on the wheels and fenders and fine chipping of the paint on the edges. The floor of the cargo bed takes more pronounced wear and traces of loads.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
