An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet ZIL-157K cross-country truck in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the characteristic three-axle off-road truck with drive on all wheels and a canvas-covered cargo bed. According to the manufacturer the box contains plastic parts, the cab, a canvas tarpaulin and a set of tires.
The ZIL-157 was a Soviet cross-country truck with all-wheel drive, which became one of the most widespread military trucks of the Eastern Bloc. The ZIL-157K version came about at the beginning of the 1960s, when the vehicle received a new gearbox. It was used to carry troops and cargo, as a prime mover and as a chassis for a range of bodies. It was notable for its good cross-country performance and its simple, durable construction.
With vehicles it pays to finish and paint the running gear, the engine and the cab before you close the assembly up. Use thin cement for plastic. Paint the canvas tarpaulin and the cargo bed so that the texture of the fabric and the wood stands out. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. The Soviet green scheme is nicely brought to life by weathering: dark washes emphasize the panel gaps, while dust and mud pigments on the wheels, the fenders and the underside give the truck authenticity.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
