The set is intended for models of the P-47M Thunderbolt fighter in 1:48 scale. It lets the model be finished with sharper and more legible printing than the older sheets supplied in the boxes offer. The decals are a separate accessory and contain neither the kit nor paints.
The P-47M is the sped-up version of the heavy Thunderbolt fighter, created toward the end of the Second World War in answer to the need to catch fast targets. Against the ordinary production machines it was given a more powerful powerplant with a modified turbocharger system, which showed above all in the maximum speed at greater altitudes. Few pieces were built and their deployment was concentrated into the closing stage of the war. The airframe kept the typical massive fuselage, the teardrop canopy and the wide landing gear track, so the model offers large areas on which the markings stand out well.
Decals belong on a smooth glossy undercoat. Spray the area with a gloss varnish, therefore, and let it cure properly, otherwise air will get trapped under the film and the edges will silver. Release the decal in lukewarm water, move it into place with a brush and soak the surplus water away with a cloth. Apply a decal softener in thin coats so that the motif settles into the engraved lines and over the rivets. With the large-area elements on the fuselage of the Thunderbolt it helps to press the decal down slowly from the center toward the edges, so that no bubble is trapped. Cover the finished surface with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, and only then let a wash and pigments onto the model.
This is a separate set of decals, not a kit. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package unless stated otherwise.
