Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit covers the American M4A1 Sherman medium tank in the form with the 76 mm gun. The 1:48 scale is a pleasant compromise for vehicles: the model still has plenty of detail, but it takes up markedly less room in a display case than 1:35 and goes well with aircraft in the same scale. Hobby Boss runs this range as a coherent group of Allied and Soviet tanks, so it can easily be extended with further types.
The Sherman was the most widespread American medium tank of the Second World War. You can tell the M4A1 version by its cast shaped front hull, which differs from the welded variants. The original 75 mm gun was excellent against infantry and fortifications, but it was no longer enough against the new German tanks, so the Americans introduced a 76 mm gun with a markedly higher muzzle velocity. The new weapon called for a larger turret with a counterweight and a different ammunition stowage; vehicles with this gun went into action from 1944 and made up a substantial part of the armament in the closing stage of the war.
Thin edges stand out in the smaller scale, so sand the remains of the sprue gates away carefully. Finish the running gear and the lower hull before the hull is closed up. Even the surface out with a primer, lay the olive base down with an airbrush and keep it graded, otherwise the model looks flat. The cast front deserves a fine surface texture, which a thin wash will bring out. Finish with dust on the fenders and wear on the edges of the hatches.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
