An injection-molded plastic kit of the Chinese Dong Feng-1 ballistic missile (Project 1059) in 1:72 scale from Bronco. The model includes the missile itself and the classic launch ramp, so a whole launch scene can be built. The package is molded in two colors of plastic; paints, glue and accessories are not included.
The Dong Feng-1, meaning east wind, was the first Chinese ballistic missile, a licensed copy of the Soviet R-2 missile, which was itself based on the design of the German V-2 and had roughly twice its range. The missile measured about seventeen meters, was powered by a liquid-fueled engine and carried four trapezoidal stabilizing fins. It was an important step in the beginnings of the Chinese missile program.
The halves of the missile body, the nozzle and the fins can be snapped together, but the smaller parts of the ramp are better glued. Use thin cement for plastic and sand the joints of the missile body carefully. A smooth missile surface is helped by a quality primer; paint with an airbrush and complete the launch ramp with washes and pigments for a realistic patina.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
