A collector model of the North American F-86D interceptor fighter, nicknamed Sabre Dog, in US Air Force colors and in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North American F-86D grows out of the well-known Sabre, but it is a different machine: a single-seat interceptor for service in any weather. Its identifying feature is the rounded radar housing above the intake opening, which earned it the nickname Sabre Dog. Instead of gun armament it carried a retractable box of unguided rockets meant to strike a bomber formation.
The model is worked up in 1:72 scale and carries the colors of a US Air Force machine of the 1950s, the period when these interceptors held readiness at their bases. A pair looks good in a display case, with a classic Sabre standing next to this interceptor version, because the difference in the forward section is plain at first glance. Whether the model is supplied assembled and painted is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The model benefits from a closed display case out of reach of direct sunlight; sunlight changes both the shade and the sheen of the surface over time. Sweep dust off with a soft brush, carefully around the intake opening and the landing gear. Lift the model by the fuselage, never by the tail surfaces or by the retractable parts.
The item will be appreciated by collectors of Cold War air forces and by modelers who are putting together the development line from the classic Sabre to the later interceptors. Next to kits in 1:72 scale it fits exactly for size. A base, a display case and other accessories need not be part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
