1:72 F-105 Thunderchief pilot at the access ladder, type 3 captures the airman at the moment of climbing to the aircraft. The third pose in the range.
Responsibility details are not available.
The third pose in the range of pilots for the Thunderchief is modeled in the position at the access ladder, that is at the moment when the airman is climbing to the cockpit. A vertical composition is rewarding in a display case: it breaks the plane of the base and leads a viewer's eye upward to the fuselage of the aircraft.
Getting into the cockpit was a fairly complicated business on large combat types, and the ground crew helped the airman with it. A cockpit set high called for sturdy steps, and moving in full kit with a harness and a life vest was anything but comfortable. It is exactly this moment that is among the most often captured scenes in airfield dioramas.
Try the assembly dry first and check that the pose suits whatever the figure is meant to lean against. Before you start gluing, think the order through: paint the figure separately, because once it is glued on you can no longer reach some places with a brush. Secure the joint with a drop of thicker super glue, which gives you a few seconds to correct the position. Prepare the base before the figure, because the angle of the whole assembly follows its thickness.
The ladder and the figure make up the setting; the aircraft itself is a separate item.
