These are oil paints intended for finishing work, that is for shading, picking out relief and soiling a surface. The set is put together as a group of shades for one theme, not as a single color.
Oil paints are used only over a finished coat. They come into their own on picking out rivets, joints and edges, on darkening hollows, on stains from oil and fuel and on dust settled on horizontal surfaces. The Grimdark theme shifts the choice of shades into a darker key, which suits fantasy and science fiction subjects and figures alike.
Apply the paint as a dot on the spot where it is to be darkest and blend it out at once with a clean brush. Oil paint dries slowly, so there is plenty of time for blending and a failed application can be taken off. Work from the top down with running stains and from the bottom up with dust. It is thinned with the thinner intended for oil paints according to the manufacturer's instructions, not with water. It is advisable to protect the surface beneath with a coat of varnish before application, so that the paint under it is not attacked during blending.
For modelers and figure painters who want to take a finished model to a three-dimensional, soiled look and to have the shades of one theme together for it. The set serves for painting, and the model, brushes and thinner are not supplied with it, unless stated otherwise.
