Vallejo Decal Fix 17 ml

An auxiliary chemical for decals from Vallejo in a 17 ml dropper bottle. It is not a paint and not a kit. Decal Fix is a solution that is brushed onto the surface of the model before you lay the decal on it. It works in essence as a very fine glue for decals: it improves the adhesion of the decal to the surface and, as you press it down, helps push the surplus water and the air bubbles out from under the decal, which would otherwise stay there and create an ugly white silvered veil.

Decal Fix versus Decal Softener, do not confuse them

They are two different products for two different stages of the work and they are easily mixed up:

• Decal Fix (this product) goes FIRST, onto the surface of the model, still before the decal is laid down. It deals with adhesion and with bubbles.
• Decal Softener (a separate product) goes SECOND, onto the decal only after it has been laid down. It softens the decal and draws it into engraved lines and unevenness.

Use, the whole procedure step by step

• Prepare the base smooth and ideally gloss, as air is held under a decal on a flat surface.
• Soak the decal in water. While it softens, brush Decal Fix onto the spot where the decal will go with a soft brush.
• Slide the decal off the backing paper onto the model and seat it in the right position.
• Press it gently with a brush or a cotton swab from the center toward the edges, and you will push the surplus liquid and the air bubbles out.
• Once the decal is in place and the surplus water has been drawn off, it is the turn of Decal Softener, which is applied over the decal. After that do not touch the decal and let it dry.
• Finished, dried decals are clear coated at the end, so that the edges of the film disappear and the markings blend into the surface.

Who it is for

For anyone who puts decals on models and does not want them to look like stickers with a white edge. You will appreciate it most on large decals, on gloss surfaces and on markings that have to sit exactly.
