A set of ATOM acrylic paints from AMMO for models of the McDonnell F-4B Phantom II in service with the US Navy and the US Marines. Water-based paints.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4B was the naval version of the two-seat McDonnell Phantom II jet fighter, meaning a machine intended to operate from aircraft carriers. It served with the US Navy and with the US Marines and is associated above all with service over Vietnam. The typical finish of the machines of that period was gloss light gray on the upper and side surfaces and white underneath, with bold unit markings on the vertical tail.
Water-based acrylic paints of the ATOM line, selected for this subject. They are thinned with water or acrylic thinner, they mix with one another and they go on with a brush as well as with an airbrush.
Light schemes forgive little. Even the surface out with a primer, otherwise the difference between plastic, filler and resin will show through. Mask the boundary between the upper and the lower color with masking tape and spray from the edge inwards, so that paint does not get under the tape. Apply several thin coats, because a heavy coat will fill the panel lines. Let the surface come up to a shine before the decals, because a matte surface produces white fogging under the carrier film. Stir the paint before work and during it, because the pigment settles in the bottle.
For the modeler who is building an American carrier aircraft of this generation and wants the shades together instead of putting them together one bottle at a time. The box contains only the paints; the model, decals, thinner, brushes and masking materials are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
