About product

Gunze Mr.Color Flat Base Rough

This is not a paint and not a clear coat in its own right but a flattening additive (flat base) on a lacquer base from the Mr.Color range. It is added in a small amount to glossy paints and clear lacquers and shifts their resulting gloss toward a matte surface. The Rough variant creates a markedly matte, more strongly diffusing finish. Because it is a lacquer product, it is mixed only with lacquer paints and thinned with Mr.Color lacquer thinner: it is not thinned with water.

Use

  • Add a small amount to a glossy or clear lacquer paint and stir; the proportion of the additive decides how far the gloss is cut.
  • It is used mainly over a clear gloss coat to reach a matte protective overcoat once the decals are on.
  • Do not add too much, as an excessive amount can lighten the surface and make it look dusty.
  • It is applied with an airbrush; for a thin even coat, thin it with Mr.Color lacquer thinner or Leveling Thinner.

Who it is for

For modelers who want to control the degree of matte of their lacquer paints and overcoats themselves and need a strongly matte finish.

A lacquer product is flammable and smells strongly of solvent; work with good ventilation and use a respirator.
