Foam Stick for Flat Finish, a melamine stick, Gunze Sangyo

A modeling aid from the Japanese manufacturer Gunze Sangyo (Mr.Hobby): melamine foam in the shape of a stick, with which it is easy to aim at a particular spot. Melamine foam works as an exceptionally fine abrasive; a light pass over a painted area roughens it imperceptibly, so a glossy surface moves to a natural matte without spraying matte varnish. The shape of the stick is an advantage where a flat pad reaches badly: between parts, into recesses and up against small details.

Use

• Pass the stick with light pressure over fully cured paint until the sheen disappears.
• It is worked dry, without water and without any chemicals.
• Ideal for local matting, for unifying the sheen after decals and for repairing glossy patches.
• With the tip you will manage even narrow seams and the surroundings of small parts.
• Press as little as possible on edges, so that the paint is not rubbed through.

Who the aid is for

For modelers who need to adjust the sheen in a targeted way on a small area and do not want to set an airbrush up and mask the surroundings for it. It will be appreciated above all by builders of robot kits and of military equipment, where the surface is meant to be matte, and by everyone who fine-tunes a model only in the final stage.

The material is slightly abrasive. Try it first in a hidden place and do not use it on freshly applied paint that has not yet dried through.
