FROGS – AK BASING BITS

What the set is for

Frogs belong among the elements that turn a bare base into a piece of landscape. One at the edge of a pool or on a stone is enough and the viewer reads at once that this is a wetland, a stream bank or a damp jungle. A small living creature moreover gives a scene its sense of scale: beside it the figure and the terrain look more convincing than beside grass alone.

What the set contains

A set of the AK Basing Bits line from AK interactive with elements in the shape of frogs, ready to complete bases, vignettes and smaller dioramas. The parts are small, so work with them over a mat and out of a draft, so that they are not lost.

Placement and painting tips

First lay the elements out on the base dry and look for a composition. Do not put them in the middle; they work better at the edge or slightly behind the figure, where they lead the eye into the scene. Use super glue to bond them, as it holds even on dissimilar materials. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and apply a primer, or the paint will rub off a smooth surface. Complete a base of a subdued olive or brown with a dark wash into the recesses and pick the back out with drybrushing. The eyes and damp skin take a drop of gloss varnish, while the surrounding terrain should be left flat. If you are pouring resin over the base as a water surface, let the paint dry thoroughly beforehand.
