One shade from the IONIC DRYBRUSH range, that is from the paints intended for work with a dry brush. It names a sapphire blue: a saturated, fairly dark blue with a slight cast toward purple. It is applied over a finished base and its task is not to cover the surface but to bring the edges and highest places out of it.
A saturated blue comes into its own on the folds of cloaks, hoods and banners, on blue uniforms, on the cut faces of gemstones and on the heraldic elements of shields. In science fiction and fantasy it suits glowing cells, energy crystals and magical accessories, where it is enough to pass over the edges and leave the rest dark. It can also be used as a cold cast on dark metal or on surfaces in shadow that otherwise lack a color tone.
Drybrushing is a technique, not a property of the paint. Take a little paint on the brush and wipe it off on a paper towel until the brush no longer leaves a continuous mark. Only then pass the almost dry brush over the surface, so that the paint catches only on the edges and raised places. Work in two or three passes; a weak coat can be strengthened, while an excess is far harder to remove. Do not thin the paint for this technique. Wash the brush immediately after work, as dried paint at the ferrule will spoil the hair.
