The publication is devoted to German ground vehicles on the Italian front between 1943 and 1945 and is listed as the second volume of the series. The Italian campaign began with the Allied landings in the south and dragged on until the end of the war in Europe. The Germans fought it largely on the defensive: they leaned on the mountain ridges and the rivers across the peninsula and fell back slowly from one prepared line to the next.
That is exactly why Italy is a rewarding subject. In a fairly small area, vehicles of various ages and various origins came together, from older types to late machines, plus vehicles captured or taken over locally. The terrain and the weather also left more of a mark on the surfaces of the vehicles than on flat battlefields: dust from limestone roads, mud from the autumn rains, snow in the mountains and vegetation used for camouflage. Anyone building vehicles for a diorama will find subjects here with a strong character.
The book suits a modeler looking for support for a model, and equally a reader interested in the history of the war in Italy. You will use it when choosing a particular machine, when weighing up modifications to a kit and when thinking through the scene you will place the model in.
