A semi-gloss Mr. Color modeling clear coat with a fine gray cast, intended as a sealing layer over a finished paint job and decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
A finished model is made up of surfaces that came about in different ways: something came from the airbrush, something from a brush, the decals have a sheen of their own and dry brushing left a different reflection. Until a common coat of clear seals the surface, the eye reads these differences and the model looks inconsistent. A clear coat levels everything under one reflection and at the same time protects the decals from abrasion during further handling.
For fidelity, semi-gloss is usually the best choice. A completely matte surface looks chalky on a scale machine and swallows all its shape, while a high gloss suits only new cars and freshly painted aircraft. A semi-gloss level lets the shape stand out and still does not look artificial. The gray cast of this clear coat also mutes the colors underneath very slightly, which suits machines that are meant to look used but not yet neglected.
Never shake the clear coat, or you will whip air into it and it will appear in the dried layer as tiny craters. Stir the contents slowly, thin it with the thinner of this brand and apply it in two or three thin passes with a pause between them. A heavy coat is the commonest mistake: the matting agent settles unevenly in it and the surface gets a whitish veil that can no longer be removed except by sanding it back and spraying again. Always test the spray on a scrap part before working on a finished model. It also pays to wait for a drier day, because high air humidity plays directly into the veil.
