Heavy Warg Orcs, set 2 (1:72, Dark Alliance)

A set of unassembled and unpainted plastic fantasy figures in 1:72 scale from the maker Dark Alliance. The package holds 12 riders, heavily armored orcs, in 12 different poses, and with them giant wolves, the wargs, in 6 poses. It is a second set in its own right that follows on from the first part: it uses the same castings of the wolves but brings new poses of the riders, so the two sets can easily be combined into more numerous units. It is not a finished model but a set to be glued together and painted yourself.

What the figures represent

Warg orcs are the heavy cavalry of the dark armies in a world of swords and magic in the style of Tolkien and of classic fantasy wargaming. Massive orcs clad in armor sit on large wolves and make up a shock unit suited to battle scenes and to static dioramas alike. The poses of the riders and of the wolves are dynamic and look like a charge at full gallop.

Building and painting tips

Carefully cut the figures out of the sprue with a sharp modeling knife, clean up any flash and glue them with a cement for plastic or with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a base layer (a primer) before painting; it unifies the surface and the paints then hold better. Paint with a brush: acrylic figure paints prove themselves on the skin of the orcs, the fur of the wolves and the metal of the armor. Depth is added by a darker glaze (a wash) running into the hollows and by accenting the edges with a dry brush.
