A collector's model of the F-21A Kfir aircraft in the colors of the US Navy, in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kfir is an Israeli supersonic combat aircraft that grows out of the design of the French Mirage series, but was given a different engine and a range of modifications of its own. Under the designation F-21A, several of these aircraft were leased in the 1980s by the US Navy for the role of adversary in air combat training: crews thus met a machine that differed from home equipment both in its flying qualities and in its silhouette. It is in the American form that the aircraft is shown on the model.
This is a collector's model in 1:72 scale, that is in the most common collector's scale for aircraft. The relationship in size to the other machines in the cabinet will therefore match. Whether the model is supplied assembled and painted is worth checking on the box, because the workmanship in collector's ranges differs from piece to piece.
The model fares best in a closed display case out of direct sunlight, which over the years shifts the shades of the finish and clouds the transparent parts. The bold color schemes of aircraft assigned to air combat training are especially sensitive to light. Wipe dust away with a soft brush, and for other dirt a lightly dampened cloth with no solvents is enough.
The model will please collectors who put together series of machines by operator, and above all those who have a liking for unusual chapters of aviation history. A display case and scenic accessories are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
